Kerry L. Bernal, MD

    Dr. Bernal is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. Dr. Bernal specializes in surgical pathology analysis of gastrointestinal specimens, providing diagnostic reporting of all gastric, esophageal, small bowel, and colon biopsies through gross and microscopic examination. Dr. Bernal is a native of Omaha, NE, graduating from Daniel J. Gross High School in 1988. Dr. Bernal received her Bachelor of Arts degree in the Biological Sciences at the University of Chicago in 1993, and her medical degree from University of Illinois College of Medicine (Peoria, IL) in 1998. She completed her residency training in anatomic and clinical pathology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) in 2003, where she also served as chief resident. Dr. Bernal served as a faculty member at UNMC, where she practiced general surgical pathology, specializing in liver pathology, renal pathology, and transplant pathology. She was also the Director of the Human DNA Identification Laboratory and held many teaching responsibilities. In 2007, Dr. Bernal joined Gastroenterology Specialties (GES) in Lincoln, NE, focusing exclusively on gastrointestinal and hepatic pathology, and acting as the Medical Director of the laboratory. Dr. Bernal joined Midwest Gastrointestinal Associates, PC, (MGI) in April 2010, where she practices gastrointestinal pathology and also serves as the Medical Director of the laboratory.
